Brad Keselowski closes in on Chase leaders – NASCAR news
Brad Keselowski narrowed the gap between him and the top position after he finished 3rd in the Hollywood Casino 400 at the Kansas Speedway on Sunday, October 9, 2011.
The finish puts him 4th in the Sprint Cup Championship, 11 points behind leader Carl Edwards. With 6 races to go, Keselowski knows that similar finishes will lead him to his first Sprint Cup title in his first year in
the Chase.
Keselowski had won the Kansas Lottery 300 in the Nationwide Series at Kansas a day earlier and was happy with the performance the team put in the Sprint Cup.
“Another solid day for us,” said Keselowski. “It just makes you kick yourself for last week at Dover for having the trouble that we did. We’ve had top-five cars each and every week. We’re executing very well as a group and as a team.”
Keselowski has had a good run in the Chase so far. He finished 5th in the first race at Chicagoland and followed it up by a 2nd place finish at Loudon. He then had problems with his power steering belt
in Dover and finished in a disappointing 20th. With a 5th place finish at Kansas, he has been steadily gaining on the top position and will want to stay there come Homestead.
Keselowski gave a lot of the credit for his consistency to his team. He believed that it was the teams that made things happen as they make the car, control the pit strategies and reduce times on the pit stops. He was grateful that he had such a good team
which had helped him throughout the year.
Speaking about Jimmie Johnson’s win, Keselowski believed that Johnson will be a tough challenger, but with so many races to go, anything could happen.
“Certainly he's going to be tough.” said Keselowski. “The real question is we've got two big wild card races with Phoenix and Talladega, and I don't think you can rule anyone in or out until those two races are over and we get to Homestead.”
Keselowski will get his chance to take the lead in the Bank of America 500 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway on Saturday, October 15, 2011.
