Brad Keselowski continues impressive run with second place at Sylvania 300 – NASCAR news
Brad Keselowski continued his impressive surge to the top after finishing second in the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire.
The win moves the 27-year-old to third place in the standings for the Sprint Cup behind Tony Stewart and Kevin Harvick.
The turnaround for Keselowski has been quite a fairytale as he was down and out of the race after being in 28th position at one point. However, he made the most unexpected of comebacks as he won two races and got six top 5 finishes to finish 11th for the
Chase and got in through the ‘wildcard’ system introduced by NASCAR.
Keselowski was unfortunate to miss out on the 9 points he would have gotten if he had finished in the top 10 due to his three wins in the series.
The impressive run of form has seen Keselowski being seen as a potential contender for the 2011 Sprint Cup Championship. Keselowski himself admitted that he found it hard to believe the comeback the team has made over the last few weeks.
He is staying grounded however, and admitted that he was lucky to finish second at Loudon, with his car not in the best of shapes.
“We probably weren't a second-place car but we worked hard and made something happen,” Keselowski said. “We weren't the fastest car -- I'd be lying if I tried to tell you we were, but we made good adjustments to our car [and] got to where it was a solid
top-10 car.”
New Hampshire has never been Keselowski’s favourite hunting ground, having finished 35th here earlier this year. His previous best finish here was sixth in his debut year.
Keselowski said that he was really nervous about this race at New Hampshire as he has really struggled at this track. He has generally struggled at most one-mile tracks, having only won at Bristol which he claims is different from other short tracks. Therefore,
a good result here means all the more to him.
Keselowski also praised crew chief Paul Wolfe and the Penske Racing team and felt that their strategy and execution had allowed them to build momentum in the Chase.
Commenting on his Chase chances, Keselowski said that he always felt that the first few races will be difficult for him and his team. However, with a fifth place finish in Chicago and a second place at Loudon, he is much more confident and is looking forward
to the last few races of the chase.
“I feel like our best races in the Chase are going to be our last five or six races, to be quite honest,” Keselowski said. “So to me, if we get through these first four or five, I think we've got a really good shot at it.”
