Brad Keselowski dominates Kansas Lottery 300 at Kansas Speedway – NASCAR news
Brad Keselowski left the entire pack in his dust as he sailed to a comfortable victory in the Kansas Lottery 300 at the Kansas Speedway on Saturday, October 8, 2011.
Keselowski overtook Carl Edwards with 13 laps to go and ended up winning with a 2.795-second lead. Keselowski is the defending Nationwide Series champion and while he cannot defend his title in 2011, he will be happy with a strong performance by the team
at one of his favourite tracks.
“You couldn't ask for more, that's for sure,” Keselowski said. “This car was just hauling the mail. We have fast cars, good pit stops, all these things. Just an awesome day, very special. I wish I could have cars like this all the time.”
Carl Edwards came in second after starting on pole for the race. Edwards managed to close down the gap between his No. 60 Ford and the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota to seven points in the owners’ standings. Edwards was content with a second place finish
as he felt that his car was not at its best on the track.
“Brad's car was so fast,” Edwards said. “I knew after about 30 laps that, unless something happened, we were going to be racing pretty hard for second place. Fortunately, there at the end, I did get a chance to race with him a little bit.”
Nationwide Series challenger Elliott Sadler came in 3rd place and gained two points over current leader Ricky Stenhouse Jr., who finished 5th. Paul Menard divided the two competitors as he ended up in 4th.
Kevin Harvick finished 6th with two-time defending champion in this race, Joey Logano, finishing 7th. Logano was driving the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota and will not be happy finishing behind Carl Edwards.
Brian Vickers, replacing Reed Sorenson in the Turner Motorsports Chevrolet, finished in 8th position.
Reed Sorenson is now certainly out of the race for the Nationwide Series race as he finished in 26th position in the race. He will, however, be glad that he at least found a ride for the race and will be looking to drive until the
very end of the season.
With four races to go, it is left between Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Elliott Sadler to fight it out for the Nationwide Series Championship. The next race is the Dollar General 300 Miles of Courage at the Charlotte Motor Speedway on October 15, 2011.
