Brad Lidge not ruling out possibility to coach down the line-MLB Update
Washington Nationals' relief pitcher in the 2012 season, Brad Lidge, has retired, following his struggle at the mound while throwing innings.
As he was asked about doing the coaching job down the road for some major league clubs, he has not written off such an option.
Lidge is an old hand, with a lot of laurels to his credit.
Producing save for the Philadelphia Phillies that resulted in their World Series victory back in 2008 and having an impressive track record are among the distinctions that he has achieved in his career.
As a coach, he can be extremely valuable.
However, at the moment, Lidge is focusing on his family and study. He likes religious studies and history as he tries to excel in them.
Lidge could not make his last season worth remembering. Marred by injuries, he could not play games regularly.
The injuries also reduced his effectiveness as set-up reliever, which was reflected by the subpar shows in the important games by him.
The save opportunities that he received could not be converted into wins by Lidge.
It was for the same reason that he did not last long on the roster of the Nationals.
The idea of joining the coaching staff of some organisation in the future is not out of his mind.
While currently he is busy waiting for becoming a father, he can consider seriously if offered for the job by some of the major league clubs.
“Possibly. I definitely wouldn't say that I wouldn't do those things. I was thinking about doing an audition for MLB Network. But I'll definitely be coaching my kids. Honestly, I'm just going to be a dad for a while. You miss your kids so much. My wife made
a lot of sacrifices for this, so she's going to do her thing for a while. So I'll watch my kids grow up. That's the most important thing right now,” Brad Lidge said.
Talking to MLB.com, Lidge has discussed few of the special memories of his career.
His epic celebration after recording a save in the World Series winning inning in the 2008 is by far the best moment for him.
It will be interesting to see as to how he considers the option of acting as coach after some years.
