Brad Lidge uncertain about future as Washington Nationals designate him for assignment-MLB Update
On being released by the Washington Nationals for disappointing performances, relief pitcher Brad Lidge views uncertainty ahead. Unsure if he will be called up by any other team, he is spending time with family at the moment.
He has told his agents Jim Turner and Rex Gary about the desire to play the season. Any team which confronts issues with bullpen could possibly need his services.
Immense experience and stature of being a two times All-Star can invite interests from various organisations. However, there will be an underlying concern about sports hernia surgery he went through earlier in the season.
Prospective teams will be taking into account various factors. Despite the fact he boasts experience and can be crucial late in the innings, he will not become an ideal option for the clubs.
Ever since he has returned from surgery, his arms have not supported him. While before the injury he showed power and led the bullpen well late in the innings but he took a nosedive on return.
Flurry of meltdowns followed him and in turn the Nationals who are extremely particular about the quality of their hurlers had no other option but designating him for assignment.
This, along with the fear that his excellence as a reliever is on decline will discourage the teams for going after Lidge. Interestingly, he knows the reality very well and therefore has little hopes that he will be playing anytime soon in the season.
However, he claims that he is fit and offers himself for any team which is interested to take him.
"I am healthy,'' Lidge stated. "But based on the path I would have to take to get back to the bigs this year, I am not sure I will be jumping back in right now. No official decision one way or another, but mostly I am not happy that I rushed back from surgery
before I was ready only to be designated for assignment a couple of days later.''
Repenting the decision of being hasty in making comeback, Lidge said he paid the price in the form of being ousted from the job.
Since he is fully recovered now, he may have something special to offer as a reliever. It will be interesting to know which team is going to pick him, if there is going to be any.
