Brad Lincoln sparks as Pittsburgh Pirates overpower Milwaukee Brewers 9-2 – Game 2
Pittsburgh Pirates’ starter, Brad Lincoln had a tremendous day with his pitching as he gave up just two earned runs and three hits with an ERA of 4.58 in the Pirates’ 9-2 win against the Milwaukee Brewers at PNC Park, Pittsburgh on August 22.
Both teams started aggressively as the Brewers scored two runs during first inning while Pirates added only one run to cut their deficit 2-1 at the bottom of first inning. Corey Hart hit a one-run homer (410 feet) to centre-field and the second run was taken
by Nyjer Morgan when Prince Fielder hit a grounder into fielder’s choice to second base.
Conversely, Jose Tabata scored the first run for Pirates when Neil Walker hit a single-run drive towards left-field. The batters got out without taking runs during the second and third innings. At the bottom of second inning, Pirates looked immobilised as
at left-field Josh Harrison lined out, at right-field Ronny Cedeno flied out and at third base Matt Diaz grounded out.
Same is the case with the Brewers’ batters during third inning as Ryan Braun and Hart both were grounded out to short-stop position while Morgan grounded out to catcher without adding runs. The game was tied 2-2 at the bottom of fourth inning when Ryan Doumit
hit a solo homer (401 feet) to centre-field.
Pirates’ manager, Clint Hurdle said, “We were able to do some things we haven't been able to do against them, getting some timely hits, getting some hits with runners in scoring position, running the bases aggressively.”
In the fifth and sixth innings, the pitchers again overcome the batters through their magnificent pitches. Lincoln allowed two runs, one walk and one home-run in his six inning pitches. He was able to strike-out only one batter on his 76 pitches.
Pirates stepped on the gas during seventh inning to smash seven runs and advanced their lead 9-2. Garrett Jones scored first run when Harrison doubled to left-field and then Harrison posted a single run on the drive of Tabata towards deep right-field. The
last five runs were taken by Andrew McCutchen, Tabata, Xavier Paul, Walker and Doumit to end the seven run campaign for Pirates.
As a result, Pirates were able to level the four-game series 1-1 after having a comfortable victory.
