Brad Pickett: Chael Sonnen tougher for Michael Bisping to fight than Anderson Silva – UFC news
Brad Pickett, UFC bantamweight contender while giving his views on the 'UFC on FOX 2', said that for Michael Bisping, Chael Sonnen is a tougher man to fight than the current champion Anderson Silva.
He further added that Bisping should prepare harder to face Sonnen, and should not take him as an inferior competitor.
Right now, Sonnen is the main hurdle in Bisping’s way to reach Anderson to fight for the title. If he defeats Sonnen, he will get a title shot against Anderson. Bisping is in the best of his form but Sonnen seems to be the better man right now. Sonnen defeated
Brian Stann recently through a brutal submission hold which clearly shows how technically sound he is. Therefore, it is imperative for Bisping to make sure he gets down on Sonnen hard right from the start.
In an interview to ESPN at the launch of the UFC Undisputed 3, Pickett asserted that Bisping has been around for a long time and that it would be better if a brit wins.
He said, “Styles makes fights, that's why I don't think he'll get a title shot because he's facing Chael Sonnen. I think he had more chance of beating Anderson Silva than he does beating Sonnen. If he had a different route to Silva, I think there's a good
chance he would be the first British UFC champion.”
Pickett is widely respected and is considered among the smartest brains within the sports industry today. His views are highly upheld, and he believes that ‘fighting styles’ have to do a lot in the ring. Comparing Bisping’s attack style with Sonnen’s technical
style, Pickett asserts that Bisping needs to be highly careful of what he wishes for.
On this very note, he added, “I think styles make fights, and if Bisping wants a title shot, I'm not sure Chael Sonnen is the way to go.”
Bisping was actually meant to fight Demian Maia, however since Mark Munoz faced severe injuries, the fight was rescheduled by the Brit and Sonnen was brought into the scene. However, Pickett does not seem content with this decision.
