Brad Thorn in spotlight as Leinster win Finals - Rugby news update
The former All Blacks lock, Brad Thorn, after Sunday’s final against Ulster, has the become the only player in rugby history to win the World Cup with the All Blacks, a Super Rugby Title with the Crusaders and an NRL title with the ever so good Brisbane Broncos. The legendary Brad Thorn Has also played for the State of Origin with Queensland and also for the Australian Kangaroos League.
The now 37-year-old Brad Thorn's recent achievement gave him the Heineken Cup trophy with the Irish club Leinster, and was called “Awesome” by All Blacks' coach Steve Hansen.
"It proves how bloody good he was and is as a rugby player and as a sportsman," Hansen said. "He is a great athlete who is truly professional and deserves everything he's got.”
The veteran Brad Thorn was one of the standouts in All Blacks' World Cup winning campaign a year ago and also helped the crusaders win the Super 14 triumph in 2008. The All Blacks' star has a record of 59 Tests to his name in his successful career.
Brad Thorn, in an interview after winning the Heineken Cup, said, "It was a real privilege to be part of that."
"To be a European champion as well as winning the World Cup is incredible. I would have just been happy with all my NRL stuff and do some cool stuff over there."
"But I have always been a big dreamer. Years ago I never dreamed that what happened in my NRL career would happen," he added.
The New Zealander was signed up only on a short-term contract by Leinster earlier this year because of an injury crisis and retirement was not on his mind.
He said, "Physically I have always been lucky. I feel pretty good."
Next up for Thorn is a chance to add to his list another medal in Leinster’s RaboDirect Pro12 final showdown against the Ospreys, in Dublin next weekend.
