Bradford Bulls defeat Huddersfield Giants by monstrous margin – Rugby League news
Bradford Bulls won against the Huddersfield Giants in a massive victory of 36-0, on Sunday, July 17, at Grattan Stadium.
Bulls met Giants with formidable force after their recent two losses. With this win they have bagged three more points that leaves them only three points short of Hulls Rovers, who are in eighth position of the Super League table. Currently, Bulls are still
floating on number ten, with ambitions of moving further up the rankings.
Despite having lost the encounter, Giants have cemented their fourth position within the league table and with this defeat their struggle for the top two spots has come to a close.
During the first-half of the game, tries were scored from Ben Jeffries and Michael Platt. Two more came in from Paul Sykes. The second half of the game was punctuated by tries scored by Patrick Ah Van and Brett Kearney. Sykes added to the scores by converting
a try by Kearney and also acing the penalty kick.
It seemed as if the Bulls’ squad had sprung back to life impressively after the inclusion of Michael Platt and Jason Crookes in the 19- man squad to meet the Giants. Jamie Langley was not part of the squad on account of his recent ankle injury, along with
John Bateman who missed the game as he had fallen ill the previous week.
Ah Van added a total of four goals along with a couple bagged by Sykes.
On the other hand, Giants were unable to show their talent on the score board, without any contribution at all from their players. Danny Brough, who had been ousted from the previous six games because of an ankle injury, made a comeback in the match. The
Giants could not benefit from his inclusion and were behind 0-22 by half time.
During the run of the game, Giants managed to almost score a try which was left unchecked when the try-line was missed by a few inches from Larne Patrick. The Giants were warned repeatedly to improve on their game by their coach, Nathan Brown, after being
defeated against Warrington Warriors in the previous clash. The latest loss brings them further away from the top two spots as now they have lost a total of four games.
Bulls specifically displayed strength within the back row line, as in their previous encounters against Catalan Dragons and Castleford that was their weak spot. During this game it was a flawless display from the back row players. Although the loop holes
in the Giants’ game aided the Bulls victory, the strength exhibited by the offence was also a factor.
Commenting on the Bulls’ performance during the match, Brown added, “The opposition played terrific weather football. The tactics were great, they kicked the ball well and put us under a lot of pressure - particularly in that first half. The game is based
on building pressure and field position and the last two weeks, we've clearly, clearly lost those battles.”
