Bradford Bulls hooker Matt Diskin's shoulder injury rules him out of remaining 2011 Super League season
English rugby league club, Bradford Bulls Rugby League Club's, preparations for the rest of the season suffered major blow after their star first choice hooker, Matt Diskin, was ruled out from the rest of the season due to a shoulder injury.
Officials at club have confirmed the non-availability of the Diskin for Bulls, in a statement released on their website on Tuesday, August 2.
Providing the details, the officials confirmed that the Diskin was playing for last two and half months while carrying a shoulder injury. However, it now became important that he undergo surgery on his shoulder to repair the damage already done to his body.
The operation will be performed on the Diskin’s shoulder on Friday, August 4th. However, the rehabilitation from the surgery will require approximately 3 to 4 months, which will make it impossible for him to play in the remaining matches of the season for
the Bulls.
Yorkshire born Diskin is an English professional rugby league player. He made his professional debut for Leeds Rhinos in 2001 and he played 264 games for the Rhinos in both the Super League and Challenge Cup competition. He has also scored 44 tries for Rhinos
during his stay with them.
After an association that lasted for nine years, Diskin left the Rhinos to join the Bulls at the start of the 2011 season. He has played only a single game for Bulls in the season. He has made 24 appearances for the Bulls and has scored three tries for them.
The 29-year-old Diskin has also represented England’s national Rugby League team. He made his international debut for the English team in 2004.
Bradford Bulls head coach, Mick Potter, has praised the determination and commitment of Diskin, in which he opted to play for the club regardless of a shoulder injury and suffering through extreme pain. He said, “I commend Matt's bravery in wanting to play
on as long as possible whilst in a lot of discomfort but that's the measure of him as a man and a team mate.”
Potter added that the decision of getting the surgery was taken after the pain was becoming unbearable. He said, “Matt's been carrying the injury for the past ten weeks but it's got to the stage now where the pain is becoming too much and an operation is
the only course of action.”
Potter added that the team will miss a quality player like Diskin in their remaining matches of the season.
Bulls will play four remaining games of the 2011 Super League against Hull Kingston Rovers, Wigan Warriors, Crusaders and Wakefield Wildcats on August 14, August 19, September 4 and September 9 respectively.
Potter has expressed his confidence that the Diskin will be fit to join the rest of the squad for their 2012 Super League pre-season training in November later this year.
