Bradley Ashby seizes Boys 400m IM gold – 2013 GHSF Australian Championships
Bradley Ashby of New Zealand seized gold medal of the Boys 400m Individual Medley (IM) in 17 to 18-year-olds category on day two of the 2013 GHSF Australian Age Swimming Championships in SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre, Adelaide on Tuesday, April 9.
The 17-year-old Ashby devastated hopes of his opponents in the eight-lap IM discipline. With his impeccable pace, Ashby faced no competition from his following swimmers and hit the finishing end for first position.
He stayed in a prominent lead over his closest competitor and surfaced on the finishing end for gold medal with a timing of 4 minutes and 22.51 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Tomas Elliott of Trinity Grammar, who was almost 1.70 seconds slower and tapped the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 24.23 seconds.
The second best finisher was followed by Jared Gilliland of Nudgee, who was almost half a second behind and surfaced on the wall for bronze medal with an effort of 4 minutes and 24.71 seconds.
The third fastest swimmer was traced by Came Blair of New Zealand, who was almost four seconds apart and touched the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 28.24 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Jake Baggaley of Trinity Grammar, who was only 0.42 seconds slower and tapped the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 38.66 seconds.
The 17-year-old Kazim Boskovic of Cares Park, who was 0.64 seconds slower and emerged on the finishing end for sixth place by producing an effort of 4 minutes and 29.30 seconds.
Seventh position of the event was obtained by William Pulley of Canberra, who was almost seven seconds behind and hit the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 36.23 seconds.
Pulley was chased by Liam Fisk of Nunawading, who was just 0.67 seconds slower and posted a time of 4 minutes and 36.90 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Ashby received a huge round of applause from the audience for his gruelling effort while the position holders received accolades at the victory ceremony of the tournament
