Bradley Dredge seeks to win at the Madeira Islands Open – Portugal
Bradley Dredge is looking to repeat the 2003 winning performance at the upcoming European Tour event, Madeira Islands Open – Portugal.
The 38-year-old Welsh star is in the field of the event and gearing up to show a good performance at the Santo da Serra in Madeira, Portugal.
Dredge has great memories attached to this event. He turned professional in 1996 and won his first title at the same event and the same course in 2003.
The prestigious tournament is going to start from May 10 to 13, 2012.
He has emotional attachment with the tournament and the course as well. The reason is that he started his professional career here.
On the other hand, the Welshman also recorded the best round scores at the Santo da Serra in 2003. He posted a score of 60 in the third round and competed well against his rivals.
"I always enjoy coming to the island of Madeira," Dredge said. "The course has improved every year so I'm looking forward to going back there. The food is always really great in the nice restaurants there and we stay in a good hotel. It's always nice to
come back to a place where I've played well in the past”.
He added: "The 60 stands out obviously, and having that chance to shoot 59. I had a putt from about seven or eight feet on the 17th which unfortunately I missed. I missed the fairway on the last and although I was on the green in two, I was 40 feet away,
so I didn't really have a chance for birdie there".
After winning the Madeira Islands Open – Portugal in 2003, he was unable to impress the spectators in other tournaments for three years. He is facing some trouble scoring, but is now planning to overcome the lapses.
He racked up his second European Tour title in 2006, as he won the Omega European Masters by 8 strokes. This victory was his last one and he has been winless since.
Dredge can repeat his 2003 performance again. He only needs to be extra committed and deliver his best in Portugal.
