Bradley Dredge the halfway leader in Munich
At the halfway stage of the BMW International Open in Munich Welshman Bradley Dredge is top of the leaderboard, on a day which saw both Ernie Els and Sergio Garcia miss the cut.
Dredge shared the overnight lead with Peter Whiteford, but a day which was full of classy fairway play saw the Welshman shoot a five-under par 67, which puts him one shot clear of the field.
Spain's Pablo Larrazabal is in second a short way adrift, while Whiteford is still in touch on 11-under alongside another Spaniard in Ignacio Garrido.
But the story of the round was the fact that two-big guns, Els and Garcia, headed for an early exit. Fatigue appeared to catch up with Els after his third place finish in the US Open in California on Sunday, but with Garcia it was more to do with his decline of his form, which shows no sign of waning.
The South African dropped three late shots and narrowly failed to grab the eagle he needed on the par five last, while Garcia was nowhere near as he struggled from start to finish.
The stand-out round of the day came from Stephen Gallacher, who shot a magnificent 63, 14 shots better than his previous day’s efforts. But the day belonged to Dredge, who has put himself in a fantastic position to make Colin Montgomery’s Ryder Cup squad.
