Bradley Dredge upbeat about his performance at the Madeira Islands Open
Bradley Dredge is relishing the opportunity to return to the site of his record lowest score of 60, when he tees off this week at the Madeira Islands Open – Portugal – BPI, slated to start from May 16, 2013.
The tournament will be staged at the Clube de Golf do Santo da Serra, featuring some of the prominent names from different parts of the world.
Despite the fact that the tournament is being played in the same week of the Volvo World Match Play Championship, a lot of big names have committed to participate in the event.
Dredge, who won the 2003 edition of the event with a record eight-stroke margin, is confident to repeat his heroics this year, which allowed him to join the winning circle of the European Tour.
According to him, he always enjoy playing in Portugal and said that the course layout of the venue course has improved greatly in the past few years, making it one of the best golf courses in the region.
“It’s always nice to be back here,” he said. “It’s a great little island and the golf course is always improving so it’s great to be back”.
He added, “One of the great memories I have from here was walking up the 16th and my caddie and I were actually trying to count how many under par I was. It’s not often you get a chance to do that! I birdied 16 to go 12 under and then had a good chance on
17 and on the last I was probably about 40 feet away so it was an outside chance of a 59 but unfortunately it just missed”.
Talking to the European Tour’s official website, he also stated that the weather conditions will play a crucial role in the tournament, as the weather in Madeira is unexpected and with the constant changes, the performance of the players can get affected.
Tom Lewis, who won the 2011 edition of the tournament, has also confirmed his participation in the event, and is among the past nine winners of the event who will be featured in this year’s edition of the event.
