Bradley Wiggins begins 2013 training
Reigning Tour de France Champion, Bradley Wiggins begins training for the 2013 season with a 12-day camp in Mallorca.
The cyclist has not raced since the 2012 Olympic Games and needs to get enough kilometres to get in shape for the Giro d’Italia 2012, scheduled in May.
The Brit’s training faced a two-week delay after he was hit by a car, leaving the cyclist with minor injuries and a fractured rib.
Bradley had a terrific 2012 season and became part of history after claiming an overall victory at the Tour de France 2012.
He received full support by the strong Team Sky line-up and managed to become the first ever British cyclist to claim the Tour de France yellow jersey after the final general classifications.
The 32-year-old also bagged multiple stages and overall victories at the Criterium du Dauphine, Tour de Romandie and the Paris-Nice 2012 along with  a stage 5 victory and a third overall finish at the Volta ao Algarve 2012.
He managed to secure 601 UCI points after the UCI World Tour Individual rankings and occupied the second overall position while Joaquim Rodriguez Oliver of Team Katusha claiming the first position with a lead of 91 points.
Tom Boonen (410 points), Vincenzo Nibali (400 points) and Alejandro Valverde (394 points) achieved the third, fourth and the fifth positions in the respective order.
Wiggins has decided to skip the Tour and will try to win the first Grand Tour race of the year, the Giro d’Italia 2013.
Team Sky Head Coach Shane Sutton noted that Wiggins will train for an average four hours per day, and the practice will continue in a three-day blocks followed by a rest day.
"My plan was always for Brad to start training at the end of October. We missed a little bit, but we are ready to train. He will be riding 12 hours in every three-day block in Majorca," Sutton told the Daily Telegraph newspaper.
"He's lost a few days but it's not like we're behind the eight ball. Eight weeks is going to get you pretty close to where you need to be and if you've got three months to work with an athlete who is in pretty good shape you can do a lot".
Team Sky cyclist has already challenged Vincenzo Nibali and Ryder Hesjedal in the coming edition of the race and Sutton is convinced that the Brit is in shape to claim an overall victory at the Giro d’Italia 2013.
