Bradley Wiggins happy with his second place finish during the opening prologue of the Tour de France 2012
Bradley Wiggins of Team Sky Procycling finished second during the 6.4 kilometre prologue of the Tour de France.
He finished 7 second behind the race leader Fabian Cancellara and secured the second podium position.
The British has been declared as a pre-race favourite by the experts after his tremendous run of form in the first half of the 2012 season.
Fabian Cancellara showed tremendous legs after his superb performance during the race, which he completed in a quickest time of 7 minutes and 13 seconds.
Wiggins was delighted after his second place finish and noted that he is now focussed towards the coming stages of the race.
“I finished second, which is a good start. Physically, I felt fantastic out there,” he voiced.
"There was a cobbled section and a few drains on the way out, there was an off-camber roundabout where again I didn't take any major risks”.
"There's a commitment in that kind of race for the stage win and there's a commitment thinking of the three weeks, and I took the second option”.
“I didn't go across the first section of cobbles on the tri-bars – I came off them for safety reasons. I felt in control during the first half and then just stepped it up".
The 32-year-old is enjoying an outstanding run of form with a number of victories already in his bag.
He has secured 335 UCI points and occupies the third spot at the UCI World Tour Elite Men rankings.
Team Katusha cyclist, Joaquim Rodriguez is leading the category with 404 UCI points.
Tom Boonen of Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step is 38 points behind at the second position.
