Bradley Wiggins interested to ride the Tour de France 2013
It was believed earlier that the Tour de France 2012 winner, Bradley Wiggins will ride the Giro d’Italia and the Vuelta a Espana in the season ahead in order to fill all the three Grand Tour victories in his bag.
Team Sky General Manager David Brailsford and the cyclist himself stressed on the idea that the Brit will forgo the Tour de France 2013in order to focus on the other two Grand Tour races of the season which opens the doors for Christopher Froome.
However, during his recent interview with BBC Radio 5 live, Wiggins noted that he is positive to ride the Tour de France and will lead the team at the three-week race.
"I'm probably going to try and win a second Tour de France, so I don't know, maybe we'll have two leaders,” he stated.
David Brailsford stated that Wiggins will be sent to ride the Giro while Christopher Froome will head the team at the French Grand Tour on which Bradley stated, “I don't know - it's more Dave's problem, really, to worry about. It's just how we service both
mouths - that's more the problem to figure out".
However, Wiggins has also stated that does not mind supporting Froome at the Tour de France, if he is really amongst the top contenders till the end.
"Whatever the team strategy is, I'll support that, otherwise you don't take the start line because there will be someone else who is willing to fulfil that job, It's a case of doing what's asked of you on the day, whatever that decision is".
Wiggins had a terrific 2012 season which also helped him grabbing the biggest victory of his professional career, an overall victory at the Tour de France.
He became the first ever British cyclist to claim an overall victory at the French Grand Tour in history of the sport with his teammate Christopher Froome securing the second position.
Some of his other top performances include overall wins at the Tour de France, Paris-Nice, Tour de Romandie and the Criterium du Dauphine 2012.
It will be interesting to see how Brailsford manages his resources in terms of Wiggins and Froome and the 2013 Grand Tour races.
