Bradley Wiggins is targeting the Paris-Nice as the first big goal for his 2012 season
Bradley Wiggins of Team Sky is determined to grab the podium at the coming edition of the Paris-Nice scheduled on March 4, 2012.
The cyclist will be accompanied by Riche Porte and Chris Froome at the French race. The trio is hoping to repeat their splendid performance that earned them a podium spot last year at the Vuelta a Espana.
The British cyclist finished third during the most recent version of the Spanish Grand Tour and also held the red jersey for five consecutive stages, stage 11-15.
He finished second at the UCI Road World Championships, Time Trial category last year and achieved the third overall position at the Paris-Nice 2011.
While commenting on the current position of the British side, Team Sky, Wiggins mentioned that the squad is equally balanced.
Moreover, its bag full of victories in the young season is a clear proof of the potential it has for the coming events of the year.
"Everything about this team is just snowballing and getting better and better, race after race. We're becoming more consistent too, it's more of a habit now," he noted.
He added, "So everything we go to, one thing leads to another and we've also got an incredibly strong squad at Tirreno-Adriatico which takes place around the same time as Paris-Nice".
"It's great to be part of it and I'm just looking forward to Paris-Nice now and my next few races after that," Wiggins concluded.
Chris Froome, Christian Knees, Bradley Wiggins, Danny Pate, Richie Porte, Kanstantsin Siutsou, Geraint Thomas and Rigoberto Uran, will represent the team for the Sunday’s Paris-Nice.
Bradley observed that the new young riders in the team have definitely strengthened its squad for the season ahead.
Kanstantsin Siutsou joined the team after the demise of Team HTC-Highroad and Richie Porte ended his associations with Team Saxo Bank and penned a deal with David Brailsford’s squad for the 2012 season.
Paris-Nice also termed as “the race to the sun” is a professional cycling stage race held annually since 1933.
Belgian cyclist Alfons Schepers succeeded during the first version of the race while Tony Martin of Germany claimed the most recent version of the race.
Sean Kelly is the most successful cyclist of the race as the race as he has succeeded at the race for a maximum number of seven times.
