Bradley Wiggins wins the Olympics Gold
After showing tremendous legs at the Tour de France 2012, Bradley Wiggins was a pre-race favourite to secure the gold medal at the Olympics Individual Time Trial event.
The cyclist rode brilliantly in front of the home crowd and secured an important victory during the 44 kilometre race on Wednesday.
He crossed the finish line in a quickest time of 0:50:39.54 and occupied the top podium position with Tony Martin and Christopher Froome finishing at the second and the third positions respectively.
Martin finished 42 seconds behind and helped Team Germany with a silver medal whereas; Froome was further 26 behind to bag the bronze.
"I cannot put it into words. I wouldn't do it justice. It was really incredible," Wiggins noted after crossing the finish line.
He further added that, "To win an Olympic gold in your home city. When you win in the velodrome, there are three or four thousand people cheering.
“Here, around the streets of London, the noise is just amazing. I don't think anything will top that. I've just won the Tour de France. It's just been phenomenal".
The second position holder and the reigning champion Tony Martin admired Bradley’s performance, "[Wiggins] was unbeatable today and I respect this. No one can beat him, a bit like I was like last year".
This is Bradley’s fourth Olympics gold with his previous victories at the 2004 Athens Olympics Individual pursuit and two medals during the 2008 Beijing Olympics Team pursuit and the Individual pursuit.
Taylor Phinney of Team Unites States of America, Marco Pinotti of Team Italy, Michael Rogers of Team Australia and Fabian Cancellara of Team Switzerland occupied the fourth, the fifth, the sixth and the seventh positions in the respective order.
Tony Martin started-off pretty well and succeeded during the 7.3 kilometre Intermediate split with Wiggins and Cancellara at the second and the third spots.
Bradley took the top spot right through the 18.4 kilometre split 2 of the race as Tony Martin jumped up to the second spot with Christopher Froome at the third and the trio finished the race in the same order.
