Bradley: let us put the belt vacant and let us fight for the belt – Boxing News
After hearing it all the taunts from fighters, former fighters, analysts, critics and fans, WBO welterweight titlist Timothy Bradley has finally decided to vacate the belt for a rematch against Pacquiao.
In his recent interview, Bradley, who won the title via split decision victory over Manny Pacquiao on June 9, maintained that he has proven himself and that he can do it again. He added, “I would say let's do the rematch, let's put the belt vacant and let's
fight for the belt. You know?”
Bradley’s split decision win against Pacquiao soon became controversial. Within minutes, the internet, mostly social media websites and boxing reporting websites, was flooded with negativity towards Bradley. Some fighters even suggested that Bradley should
give up the title to Pacquiao, including Bradley’s good friend Andre Ward. However, Bradley maintains that he will never give up his title, as such an act would discredit him, the judges and the sport.
He added, “Why would I do that? There hasn't been anybody in the history of boxing that ever gave up the belt. EVER! In the history of boxing.”
According to Bradley, giving up the title to Pacquiao will not prove who the better man is. Therefore, he believes it is best to have a rematch to test the mettle of both the fighters. He further said, “I don't have to be the champion going into the fight,
and let's just fight for the belt. Let's do that.”
It should be noted here that even though a lot of fighters want Bradley to give up the title, Manny Pacquiao believes that a rematch is a better option. Last week, after hearing WBO’s review results for the fight, Pacquiao stated that he would not want Bradley
to give up the title. According to the Filipino, Bradley’s title surrender would be a negative impression on his career.
As of now, it is not sure if Pacquiao will face Bradley on November 10 or not. Although both the fighters are eager to face each other again, their camps suggest otherwise. Hall of Famer Promoter Bob Arum, who manages both the guys, believes a Pacquiao vs.
Bradley rematch so soon will not be a seller.
