Braga striker delighted to beat Arsenal
Braga striker Leite Nascimento Matheus says that he is delighted with his side's UEFA Champions League group stage victory over Arsenal on Tuesday 23 November.
The forward netted two goals in the last eight minutes to send Braga's English Premier League opponents to a 2-0 defeat and move alongside them on nine points in the Group H standings.
Both sides are behind Ukrainian club Shahktar Donestk, who have 13 points, in the race to reach the last 16 of the competition, but Braga have given themselves a real chance to progress into the first knockout stage following their victory.
If Arsenal win against Serbian side Partizan Belgrade, who have yet to score a point in the group, and Portuguese outfit Braga beat Shakhtar in the last round of group stage games on 8 December, the Gunners will progress automatically by virtue of their
superior head-to-head record against Braga.
However, Matheus is over the moon that his side are still in with a chance of moving into the next phase of the tournament.
He told UEFA's official website: "We're all delighted with the win. I had the joy of scoring the two goals, but the whole team have to be congratulated. I think my second goal against Arsenal that was the best of my career and I'm thrilled to have the opportunity
to be living such a moment. It's a dream come true.
"We knew it was going to be a very difficult match because Arsenal are one of the best teams in Europe, but we worked hard for the whole game and we finished as winners because of our strength. In football everything is possible. We're going to try our best
against Shakhtar and see what happens, but one thing is certain — we're going to do everything we can and fight until the last second to achieve our objectives. I think we can win in Ukraine."
