Question:

Brain Washed!!?

Do you know how people view things differently and hold different perspectives? If this holds to be true, then aren't we being brainwashed to think like them when we read there books and discoveries? For example: if you read a science book for about a month or two, where you are focused on the subject manner and what the author is telling you. Could you end up with his view after such a long time reading it and wouldn't it be better off if we haven't read it in the first place? Another better example would be: say if you are in a concert that you have been dreaming for since you were a child and one of your friends says "oh these guys suck and their beats are horrible" wouldn't you start viewing that band differently afterwards. While you were having a good time, your friend just made you look at it with confusion.

Thank you!!

  1. opinions oftentimes have no basis in fact.Reading numeous sources from established credentialed sites can help formulate one's ideas. In the end , especially in science   what one BELIEVES in unimportant...what do the facts "say"

Belief engines are often produced as a result of a cloistered

    intellectual environment...

  2. As the learner, you must learn to accept facts and opinions given to you in texts as conditional. That is, be prepared to think the author is wrong. As you learn more on the topic you can compare what you learn from different sources and begin to pick out any biases, exagerations, or errors in a particular text.  To avoid learning at all because of a fear of brainwashing is to live in willful ignorance, a condition I cannot stand.

  3. It's only brain washing if done with intent by the brain-washer.

If the person chose the media that they read/watched, and the writer was not forcing it on them and was not controlling the media to keep other opinions out, then it is just editorializing, not brain washing.
