Brain damage from pressing on carotid artery (in the neck) ?

I put my finger on the carotid artery in the neck and applied some pressure, could this have damaged the brain by preventing the blood from getting to the brain? Does the brain prevent this kind of damage by making me faint if anything happens?

Please answer, worried sick

  1. No, you're fine. Brain cells aren't damaged until they're oxygen-starved for four minutes or longer. If your brain hadn't been getting enough oxygen, you would have passed out.

  2. Nah your good.

  3. Naw, no damage. You have two arteries... block one the other is fine. And if you pressed on both, you would pass out and not be able to apply any more pressure before you'd cause yourself some damage.

  4. you have one on each side of your neck so just pressing one of them doesn't do anything. also you would never stop 100 percent of the flow to cause any harm anyway.
