Carlo Ancelotti began his club career at Parma in 1976 but only three years later, he was snapped up by Roma. He captained the Roma side that went on to win the title in the 1983 season. He helped them win the Italian title on four occasions. He then decided
to move on to AC Milan in 1987 and ended his playing career on a high note winning the Scudetto in his departing season.
His first job as a coach came in 1995, for a Serie B team called A.C. Reggiana. Although he only spent a year with the club he got them promoted to the Serie A, after which he took the management job at Parma. After proving his worth, the bigger Italian
clubs came around looking for the manager. In 1999, he signed for the Italian giants Juventus where he succeeded Marcello Lippi.
He failed to win a single trophy with the Old Lady, but he had some of the best credentials one could ask for. He was soon signed by AC Milan in 2001. In his first season in charge he took the sinking ship of Milan and got them to the semi-finals of the
UEFA Cup in the 2001-02 season.
He was highly criticised for his defensive style of play, which he later corrected by converting Pirlo into one of the greatest play makers the world had ever seen. He also reignited a deadly combination of Inzaghi and Shevchenko up front.
In 2003 he helped Milan beat Juventus in the final of the Champions League on penalties. He also won the Coppa Italia the same season for good measure. His master class was shown when he signed the fairly unknown Brazilian Kaka that season.
In the 2003-04 season, Milan won the first league title since 1999. But in the following seasons which were from 2004-06, Milan finished as runners up behind Juventus. Carlo with his master tactics and his record signing went on to win the Champions League
in the 2007 season.
Ancelotti announced that he had resigned from Milan on mutual consent on 31 May 1989. Ancelotti was snapped up by Chelsea who had gone through five managers over the span of twenty one months.
Ancelotti made an immediate impact with them, by winning the Community shield against Manchester United. He ended the season by clinching the Premier League and the FA Cup in his first season as boss at Chelsea.
Ancelotti said in an interview that someday he would like to return to Italy and mange Roma. He also said that eventually he would also like to manage the Italian national team. But Chelsea fans do not need to worry about those statements since after the
FA Cup win he is reported to have said he would like to stay as manager for the Blues for at least another ten years or so.
