Braintree Golf Course sees growth in business

Braintree Municipal Golf Course has had a great golfing year.

As the 2012 golf season comes to a close, the Director of Golf Operations Daryn Brown at Braintree Municipal Golf Course said business was so good that they ran out of supplies and merchandise.
Brown said that the officials had to make arrangements for more supplies at the Municipal Course.
“We haven’t done it the same way twice because the business is growing,’’ said Peter Morin, who is Chief of Operations and Staff at Braintree Municipal Golf Course.
Brown also reported profits soaring this fiscal year, exceeding expectations by about $50,000. He said the extra revenue would help in drudging the cold winter months that lie ahead.
This year has had a better total of golf rounds played than last years’. In 2011, just 35,000 rounds of golf were played on the various greens and driving ranges at the Braintree Municipal
Golf Course.
This year (as in season 2012), a total 41,000 golf rounds were teed off between the months of March and November.
The season began early March when winter snow had thawed and left the greens lush and, well, green.

By November, which is just a month short of off-season golf to tee-off, most links, like the ones at Braintree Municipal Golf Course, become unplayable so players have to wait out the long
dreary winter months.
Interestingly, the managing administration at Braintree Municipal Golf Course has decided to put the winter greens to good use by readying them for ice hockey.

That is right. A makeshift rink will be put up for a bit of “pucking”.  Plucky? That is what Braintree Municipal Golf Course does best: putting springs, “pucking” winters.
Golf carts have been a great source of revenue for Braintree Municipal Golf Course over the past few years. A current lease expired, but Director of Golf and Golfing Operations Daryn Brown
explained Braintree was looking for another.
“We’re looking to enter into a five-year lease . . . so we’re ready for a new fleet of golf carts for the 2013 season that will start probably sometime in March, depending on snow,” Brown
said.
