They reduced the speed limit from 45 MPH to 35 MPH on many major roads that are built to drive 45MPH or faster on.

Why are they making our trips last longer?

  1. durn skippy, cars are safer now than ever in history.  Yet speed limits are trending downward.

In the '70s seatbelts weren't even mandatory and if you were wearing one a wreck at 65 mph into a stationary object was 95% fatal.  Now with crumple zones and airbags and antilock brakes a wreck at 100 mph is 80% survivable and speed limits are in most places the same or lower?

Can you say increased revenue with speed cameras.

  2. 65 mph is too slow for most CA fwys

Sorry, but I really wanted to tell that I hate Hillary Clinton is a great name.

  3. People are intoo much of a hurry. Texas for instance has an interstate speed limit of 80 mph and yet still people complain about it not being fast enough. Try using public transit for a month and you will apreciate the posted speed limits.

  4. i know in new mexico they do that right before election time to look good, so i guess the overall answer would be to look better.

  5. I know, isn't that a shame, they end up making our lives last longer too. Where did you get your engineering degree to be able to calculate the maximum safe speed of a road? Most of the time there is a direct corrolation with the number of accidents and deaths and the posted speed limits. The more accidents and injuries and deaths the lower the speed limit will be. I personally don't care how fast you want to go and how quickly you want to kill yourself, but don't do it at my expense or safety.pp

  6. Most people drive anywhere from 10 to 50 miles per hour over the speed limits. They are just trying to make the roads safer. They wouldn't have to do that if people would just SLOW DOWN.  Everybody has the "ME FIRST" attitude and always try to get around the persons in front of them. This causes every one to speed up to try and prevent it. Thus the need to lower the limits to try to save lives.

  7. oh yes.

They want people to slow down so much.

If they make new cars built for speed.

Why are we getting lower speed limits?

It makes the driver seem like he/she wasted their money for more powerful engines that can go faster.

  8. It's not what the roads are built for as regards speed, it's what is safe for that road.

Example, we have a road that has been 65, out in the middle of no where.  A casino was put in just over the top of a hill, and cars would crest the hill at 65 to find cars turning in to the casino.  65 was obviously too fast under those conditions, and the limit dropped to 45.
