Brake Booster Leak Question?

I own a 1993 Dodge Dakota V6 engine with about 150,000 miles on it.

If my brake booster is leaking can that cause the engine to idle rough and send a lot of air to the throttle body causing a hissing gasping sound? Because my engine is idling rough and at the same time my brake pedal got very hard and I did notice some liquid coming from the brake booster, but I dont understand how all of a sudden I have a engine that is idling rough and a hard brake pedal at the same time.

Please Help!

  1. The brake booster uses vacuum power to assist the braking & a leak will affect the engine too since the brake vacuum system is linked to it. Check the rubber tubing for cracks or leakage at the joints, if the diaphragm in the booster is the cause, you need to replace the whole thing. Get it fixed, or have it modified to the hydraulic braking system which is much better than the existing one. If you mod it, don't forget to plug up the vacuum outlet from the engine. Good luck.
