i just bought a truck and it came with a brake controller and i have never used/needed one but when the truck is on and you hit the brakes should something move on it(like the lever on it?) or at least the green light on top or will this only work when i have a trailer hooked up(on that has trailer brakes) but how would i go about testing it and can someone explain what the gain is cause i see two dials one is level and one is gain what is gain?

  1. Your brake controller only controls your trailer brakes.

The brake controller provides a controlled power signal to your trailer brakes to allow smooth stopping without locking up the trailer brakes.

You will have to make adjustments for the load on the trailer and wear in the trailer brakes.  That is what the gain is for.

When the trailer is empty you will use a lower setting than when the trailer is loaded.

  2. needs to b hooked up to trailer..

  3. Yes, you will need a trailer that is wired for this truck to test it. Gain is to adjust when the trailer brakes come on as you apply the brakes, you want very little when trailer is empty, and more when it is fully loaded
