Question:

Brakes wont release!!?

I don't know whats wrong. I removed the fuse for the brake lights, so i don't drive the car around anymore and so that the battery wouldn't lose its charge. But the brakes from the front two wheels don't let go completely. They don't stay on enough to hinder the car from moving, but you can feel that they are holding on just a bit. How can I fix?

  1. call someone who actually knows what they are doing

  2. When my dad was installing a brake on the passenger side to teach me how to drive, it did the same thing when he hit the breaks. He said it's because he took the springs off the brake to put it in the passenger side. Maybe it has to do with the springs?

  3. so lonng as you are not struggling to turn the wheel then it is fine

there will always be a little bit of drag because the pistons are not being pushed back into the caliper

the front wheel actually SHOULD spin less then one time when trying to make it spin

    sounds like all is normal

BEFORE you go and waste time and money on un-needed repairs take ANY of your friens' cars jack it up and see that it is about the SAME!!!!

  4. front brakes (disc brakes) are supposed to fallow the disc very closely. i dont think that you have a problem. if the car still moves and the brakes do not get too hot, then you are just fine.

  5. check the calipers assembly to be sure everything is ok; rust, bad components, etc

  6. Could be a couple of things,  Could be rust holding your calipers tight on your discs.  Could be brake fluid. First i would suggest the "fix all"  Drive a bit on a back road, and slam on your brakes a few times, see if you can jar it free. Sounds crude but it works.  If its still sticking, bleed your brake lines.  It's simple, should be a s***w on your calipers where the fluid line enters, loosen it, and have someone pump your brakes, once fluid comes out not air have them hold your brake pedal to the floor and tight the s***w.

  7. It all depends on the kind of brakes you have.  If they are disc brakes, you might have corrosion from leaving it sit for a while.  To simple fix just drain the lines, remove the calipers and clean the discs.  If the are drum brakes then you might have a rusted brake cylinder.  To fix this you would need new cylinders ($10-$15 each).
