Braking Technique?

Hi,

In the movie Gone in 60 seconds, Nicholas Cage is braking by depressing both the clutch and the brake pedal. Is it a more effective way? What's the advantage of that technique?

Thanks.

  1. It is just used when you really need to stop asap....

  2. >> by depressing both the clutch and the brake pedal.

There's nothing special about that.  That's how you stop in an emergency.

    Good Luck...

  3. There would not be any  advantage unless you were  going uphill and could not trust your brakes.

I think N. Cage needs a driving course

  4. well there is a reason for doing this in a standard shift vehicle, if you ran a car as hard as the stunt driver ran that mustang in gone in 60 seconds. its more than just a braking technique though. what he is actually doing is double clutching while braking. now double clutching would be hard for me to explain on here but if you know anyone that drives semi truck they can explain to you how its done truck drivers use it all the time as do road course race drivers. basically its used to sync. the engine rpms with the transmission to downshift without missing your gear. now what they actually show of that i cant remember but i am sure thats what your seeing. if you like the chase scene in that go find the movie "Bullit" with Steve McQueen in it and fast forward to the chase scene. the movie itself is slow and really is bad but the chase scene is considered the greatest chase scene hollywood ever put on film

  5. It makes for good footage (by a director who doesn't know what a clutch is)?
