WHAT in the heck people? In March i moved into a 'brand new' apartment, just finished. More recently i've noticed every time i get up from sitting on the floor i have red bumps and SUPPPPER itchy skin. When i vacuum it looks like a fuzz ball in my vacuum, not like dirt and stuff.

SO what can i be? anybody?

  1. den ur allergic and dat carpet is mayb som kinda animal lol!

  2. Brand new carpet can be a recipe for brand new set of health problems, unfortunately.  Check out this page about it....

You may need to move out - if at all possible.  You don't want to risk your health.

I'm also aware of a product made by AFM that is supposed to "seal" carpet for up to a year - so it doesn't outgas all the nasty chemicals...but I haven't personally tried it.

For a real eye-opener about carpet troubles, go to http://www.andersonlaboratories.com and read the reports.

You're definitely having an allergic reaction to the chemicals in the stuff.  See this page on allergic reactions....

I hope you can get it taken care of soon, and that you are feeling better real soon!

    Hope this helps.

  3. It might be the dust particles from the new carpet.  If you suspect the carpet is not new (e.g., that the complex just cleaned it really well before you moved in) then it could be that you have an allergy to the cleaning solution the carpet cleaners used.

  4. try this.. www.inspect-ny.com/sickhouse/lookmold4.h...

  5. you are probably allergic to pets that use to be there before

  6. New carpet is NOTORIOUSLY BAD for you... in ALL respects! It contains formaldehyde... yes !!! Same stuff they preserve dead things with... NEVER lay on it directly, NEVER EVER allow a baby or child on it, and if you notice breathing trubles or allergies going mad... MOVE OUT, or at least have it thoroughly shampooed and steam cleaned afterwards... You should do that anyway. It's the only thing you can do !!!  Most companies have specials for 1 or 2 room specials for $69-$89 where I live.  I have gotten rid of a lot of carpeting and upholstery... we are very much healthier due to it. New carpet sheds a lot as well, so the fibers are from newly produced goods... It will take a while for the new fuzzies to be gone.

    Good luck to you !!!

  7. 1) it might not be as new as you think! 2 ) you are allergic ,something is obviously irritating you 3) fleas bed bugs or some other creepy crawler 4) the detergent used to shampoo the carpet is  causing you the problem. The answers are endless I would start by showing a doc just to rule out that they aren't bug bites

  8. Chemicals/preservatives  are what is causing your bumps and itch... That new carpet needs a good steam cleaning with NO detergent... then it need to air dry ... as many windows open as possible...

The red fuzzies are just lint.... the steam clean should lessen those too.

  9. bad carpet!

maybe you are allergic to the material in it....

    who knows!?

    best of luck

  10. TWO things I can figure either there could be a flea infestation or you are allergic to something in the carpeting. Anything from what it was or is shampooed with to the fibers it is made of. Brand new carpeting has added on chemicals to protect it etc. I guess you need to check with your doctor and depending on what is said ther talk to your landlord.

For now I wiuld put down a blanket  between you and the carpeting If new shampoo it once yourself -
