I am brand brand brand new to table top RPGs, and I was wondering if anyone knew of a good resource for new Role players, or some good tutorials on getting into roleplay. Tutorials, forums, articles, and/or chatrooms would be great!

My history so far has just been buying books and dice. Understanding the mechanics of an rpg is the hard part X#

Thanks loads!

  1. To start, pick your genre (western, horror, scifi, fantasy, war, detective, etc...).

    Then stop spending money!

Picking the "best game to play involes four parts!

A playable system, players who want to play, the will to learn as you play.... And the most important...A GM (or DM) who can make the game worth playing!

I have played in games that blew my mind away...I just had to buy this system that made my head spin continueously four "nine" hours of play...... Well I did and the system stunk! It was the DM..

The GameMaster must feel his players and push them as far as posible..But not to the edge, he must push just PAST it. So the players earn their goals, so they feel like they just fought to survive using every mental and physical option....

So learn the core rules of your system, play and add rules thru play, who cares of mistakes you or your players miss, PLAY! Fix them next time, Treat the rules as a true GUIDE to fun. don't be afraid to skip a rule for your groups playability but also don't be afraid to put it back in when you find out it helps play later on.

No new group of players can sit down and know every rule! Any time you can watch or sit in on a rpg you should. Even if not your system. You learn from every player and GM (good or bad!)

    So here is my offer....

    http://www.homebrew.net/games/

This is a list of Chris's links to FREE rpg game systems

    As for this one...

Well Pen and Paper lists RPGs (suppliments too) and lists Writers, creaters, publishers individually... Great site just recently getting its dues in the masses..No gamer should be without this resource!

Lastley once you know your system just use yahoos search and type

    dungeons & dragons rpg blog

    or

    Dungeons & dragons rpg question

    or

    Dungeon & dragons rpg help

remember I used D&D you use your systems name and you will find hundreds of places and people to talk to/with about that system!

    Type in search also...

Players GM Dungeons & Dragons RPG

this should find you pages with finders to find games or players in your area.

Don't forget that your system's publisher you will most likely have a blog/post and there will most likely be some links there set up by other players of the game.

    Good Luck and Game On!
