  1. check out this web site. It's all the registered brands.

    http://www.agr.gov.sk.ca/apps/lims/defau...

Oh yea, you do have to put a space between the M and the G.

    Good luck

~I did look it up and it is in there.. just a hint though. If you don't know much about her past, I would be a little weary. I bought what I thought was a 3 y/o QH. Dentist said she was 6, then the papers were "lost" Anyways long story short, when I looked up the brand, and there was never a final payment on her, classifying her as stolen. If you know about it then go for it, but just something to keep in mind. I don't want to scare you or anything just we ended up having to pay the extra fee to keep her, along with already paying for her.~

  2. well to determine her age you would either have to look at her teeth yourself or get the vet to. Examining the teeth can tell you like how worn down they are, or missing teeth, different layers to the teeth.

Also right next to her eye, like right above it ( the inward side of her head, like to the center) if that has sunken down far then that is a sign of old age also.

  3. Chances are those are a ranch brand. Is she a QH? Is she registered? You could contact her registry , I believe all brands have to be registered with teh registry if the horses are registered. If not, it may be hard to trace. You could contact her last owner, find out who they got her from, contact them, etc. until you find out.

  4. Well When I bought my horse I was told he was 10 years old

Then when the equine dentist did his teeth.

They can tell how old a horse is by their teeth.

Certain teeth come in at different ages..

Come to find out he was only 5.5

You should be able to find out

Go to the different breeds websites.

    like:

    Paint horse assoc.

    American quater horse assoc.

    etc.

Which ever breed you horse is.

I'm not sure if it woul workbut its worth a try.

    OR

try this site at the bottom there are links for different breeds.

    http://www.horsedata.co.uk/horse_brands....

But if anything I would wait until your horse needs to see the dentist..Well if you use equine dentists

and then ask them to tell you the age..

Most equine dentist should be able to tell you the age. But usually if the horse is over 20 years old they wont be able to because the horse already has most of its teeth and there teeth wont be able to give an age.

    Good luck.

  5. Sorry I couldn't help you more, but these sites may have the answer you are looking for. You might also google horse brands to see what you can find. Good luck.

  6. 10 is probably the number filly she was in that herd or at the auction.

MG is most likely the name of the ranch or farm she came from.

  7. Brands must be registered to be worthwhile in establishing identity of the brand owner.  I know many people who've taken to freeze branding their horses yet they never register their brand - it's become a fad that people hope to add certain identity to their horses in case of theivery or just to add some semblance of value or something like that to their horses.

Check with the agriculture office in your state to see where brands are registered.  See if a photo of your brand produces any information from it.

if your horse is registered, check it's registry to see who's owned it and perhaps who's reported any markings like a brand to the registration organization as a means of identification.  If the horse isn't registered and you can't find it's brand registered with any state office, you are not likely to find out it's roots.

You might try a last-ditch effort of figuring out what the brand means - like "Bar A" and look for that on the internet.

Good luck - try taking a photo of it and placing it so the audience can see it.  Add the state or area you live in which might help.

  8. hi,

    general rule is....

the top number 1 is the number foal on that stud (she was the 1st foal)

the bottom number is the year, 1 (11,21,31,41 etc) yours is 0 so she was born in 2000 or 1990 or 1980. So nine sounds about right.

The MG is the stud brand, i may be able to look this up is she is a thoroughbred. let me know.

  9. pretty sure shes a quarter horse because they only brand horses nowadays if theres alot of horses on the ranch; as your horse probably was one of them so to keep track they brand them. im guessing MG is maybe the farm brand/seal and 10 may be the neumber horse she was? not too sure but i hope i helped anyway!

  10. that might help, but its more useful if she's registered, then you can track her on the internet

  11. The numbers on her shoulder represent her age and foal number, so she would be the first foal for 0' season, that could be the years 2000 or 1990.

So shes either 8 or 18, but you should be able to tell her age from her teeth and overall health. theres a big difference between 8 and 18.

As for the brand, normaly if a horse is branded they are from a stud and registered, therefore having papers. You didnt say what breed your horse was? There are websites for certain horse breeds in which you can send information about your horse, pics of their brands, and for a  fee someone will try and locate your horses registered name and information.

Or you can search stud websites and look for the brand that your horse has. MG probably means the stud starts with the letter M, so search ?Thoroughbred, Quarter Horse? studs starting with that letter.

    ~Good Luck~

  12. most rodeo and ranch horse breeders will brand their horses on the shoulder.brands are read from top to bottom and from left to right.numerical brands represent the mare and the year so in your horses case it would mean she came from mare number one and was born in the year 2000 so that would make her 8 years old(horses are rounded down in years).the brand on the right shoulder is the ranch brand or breeder brand.you didn't say what she is for breed but most breeders wont brand a horse for english riding in the U.S. so it sounds like she is a ranch horse or a bucking string cull(a horse that wouldn't buck) so they are trained to do other things, don't get me wrong some ranch horses and cull horses are some of the brightest and athletic horses with great training out there, don't worry where the horse came from, just where it is going.
