  1. You are right to wonder. Factories that make corn flakes make corn flakes for many own brand labels. No big supermarket would dream of setting up their own manufacturing plant when they can buy-in products. Sainsmorris own brand soup is made by Baxheinz.

Food producers and supermarkets benefit otherwise they wouldn't get into bed with each other.

  2. For the obvious reason that even the likes of Tesco and Sainsbury don't have their own chocolate, cereal or canning factories (etc) it stands to reason that most of the 'own brands' come from the same places as the name brands - it's just that the own brands tend to be specified as a slightly lower - and therefore cheaper - quality - and not necessarily by the supermarket concerned. Let's face it, Heinz's for instance aren't going to let somebody else sell the same stuff cheaper under a different label are they - it's GOT to be slightly lower in quality, even IF some people seem to prefer the latter.

As usual, Yahoo, in its 'cleverness' has popped me this meaningless message:

<< Oops! It looks like you have 3 misspelling(s).

    Open Spell Checker >>

  3. I think this is true of some products like washing powder, biscuits, bleach etc, but the likes of tea (Tetley) and beans (Heinz) you can taste the difference. I guess you just have to shop around and try them all to see what you prefer personally.

  4. i like both depending on what it is

  5. I find that some 'own make' products are far better than big brands, you just have to shop around i guess.
