This is certainly not the same Brandao that Olympique de Marseille fans saw a few years back. Les Phoceens bought the striker from Shakhtar Donetsk where he had a reputation of being one of the most lethal strikers in the game.
However, all such notions were dismissed when he scored just 7 goals in 18 games in his first season with the Ligue 1 giants. Though he scored 18 goals the following season, Brandao once again failed to show his consistency as he ended the last campaign
with just 7 goals from 42 games.
Disappointed, Didier Deschamps sent the Brazilian on loan to first http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cruzeiro-c38870 and then to Gremio where he never really adapted to the style of play.
Furthermore, the striker gained notoriety due to his off the field adventures.
In the January transfer window this year, Marseille tried hard to bring in a new striker. However, in the end, Deschamps and co were forced to call upon the services of Brandao. Back from his Brazilian exile, many people criticised the club for putting faith
on a player who had let the club down many times.
However, all these notions were dismissed when the striker stepped into the field. In seven games this campaign, Brandao has already scored five goals for the Rhone giants and his performances have improved considerably.
The striker was supposed to be sold or sent on a loan in March but his performances have changed everyone’s minds and Brandao is now an integral part of the side.
“I will not deny it was a surprise but it was a very nice surprise. I’m really happy to be back to show my football. I do now want to leave with a feeling of incompleteness. This is a second chance that I have been given. It is clear that I will finish the
season at Marseille and I want to continue in this path.”
His contract ends this June but if Brandao ends up the season with a good goals per game ratio a lot can change as Marseille might consider keeping the striker instead of buying one given their financial issues.
