Branden Grace eyes Masters after improving position in world rankings – Golf News
South African golfer, Branden Grace, is now looking forward to finding a spot among the top 50 in the Official World Golf Rankings, in order to earn a place in the 2012 Masters Tournament, at Augusta National Golf Club.
He recently made a huge jump in the rankings table, improving 166 places and surged to the 92nd position on the back of two consecutive wins on the European Tour – the Joburg Open and the Volvo Golf Champions.
The most interesting part of both his wins is that he recorded them after his initial 49 winless appearances on the European Tour.
After the Volvo Golf Champions, he told the reporters that he is very pleased with his recent movement in the world’s rankings and wishes to improve it further with some good finishes in the upcoming tournaments.
As the Masters is scheduled in the first week of April, he needs to climb up in the top 50 till the last week of March if he wants to make his appearance in the first major of the year.
"Getting into the top 50, I think that is every player's goal," he said. To get into a Major would be an unbelievable year. If I could achieve that to get into the Masters, it would just be a highlight, indescribable".
His next target will be Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship this week and if he manages to make a good run in the tournament, he has a bright chance to make it to the top 50 of the world.
"The next couple of weeks are one of those things where anything can happen," he said. "I just hope my game stays the way it is. I hope my energy levels stay up”.
"I know for a fact I'll definitely take it easy the next couple of days go out and play the Pro-Am in Abu Dhabi and take it from there," he added.
Grace has played three events so far in the 2012 European Tour and is leading the Race to Dubai with 570,000 Euros.
He now plans to perform well in Abu Dhabi, as he said that it was his dream to play the event in Abu Dhabi.
