Branden Grace eyes major title victory, following a successful European Tour season
Last year, Branden Grace of South Africa finished 179th in The Race to Dubai and lost his card for the 2012 European Tour season.
As a result, he participated in the Qualifying School and regained his card for the 2012 golf season. At that time, no one could have thought of him as one of the super stars of the future.
He started his 2012 campaign at the Africa Open and finished tied for the 14th position. The very next tournament, the Joburg Open, witnessed him make a breakthrough, as he outshined his opponents to bag his first European Tour title.
He then participated in the Volvo Golf Champions at The Links at Fancourt, and stunned his opponents by winning his second title in a row.
Right after two months, he was tasting success for the third time in his career on the European Tour, as he clinched a three-stroke victory over Nicolas Colsaerts, at the Volvo China Open.
Thereafter, he spent around five months without recording a single victory, prior to making a strong comeback at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
He fired a 22-under par tournament score at Carnoustie & Kingsbarns, to claim his fourth European Tour victory of the season.
With that victory, he also became the only player in the history of the game to record four European Tour wins in the year after graduating from the Q-School.
He then marked a strong end to his European Tour campaign by finishing sixth at the season-ending DP World Tour Championship.
After enjoying such a great season, the 24-year-old has now set his sights on winning, at least, one of the four major golf championships to be held next season.
Talking to the reporters, he expressed his pleasure in making it into each of the four major golf championships in 2013.
He said that he will try keeping his winning momentum going into the upcoming year, in a bid to replicate his performances in last season.
"This year I will be more focused on the majors knowing that I have secured my four spots for them. It will be the same as this year, just finding my feet again,” he said. "I will be in the States and it's starting all over again. Getting the first win and
moving from there, because you're playing events you have never played before”.
He also expressed his wish to record the first victory of his 2013 campaign at a major championship.
"When I was in contention and still didn't win I still enjoyed the game. I'm playing the best golf of my life and I feel it's just around the corner. Hopefully the first one will be a major,” added the South African, who also holds three Sunshine Tour victories.
