Branden Grace eyes summit at the SA Open Championship
Branden Grace of South Africa eyes another victory on the European Tour, when he tees off this week at the SA Open Championship, slated to start from November 15, 2012.
The tournament will be played at the Serengeti Golf and Wildlife Estate, featuring some of the prominent names on the tour.
The 2011 Masters champion Charl Schwartzel, the Ryder Cup hero Martin Kaymer and Henrik Stenson are to name a few.
Grace graduated from the European Tour Q-School last year and started playing on the bigger stage right from the beginning of the 2012 golf season. At that time, no one could have thought of him as the future star in the world of golf.
He is currently the hottest sensation on the European Tour, having won four tournaments to date this season. In addition to that, he also tasted success on the Sunshine Tour by winning the 2012 Vodacom Origins of Golf Final.
His dream season began with two straight victories at the Joburg Open and the Volvo Golf Champions in January.
He then added the Volvo China Open title to his resume in April and followed that with a victory in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship last month.
At the start of the year, he was ranked outside the top-300 in the Official World Golf Rankings. The impressive run of victories moved him to the 39th position in the list.
He has now set his sights on winning the SA Open Championship, which is also the second oldest Open Championship in the history of the game.
“Over the last couple of years I’ve felt that I’ve played good golf, but never really got the best out of it; I never really got where I wanted to be,” said Grace.
Grace also became the first player in the history of the sport to record his first four European Tour victories in one year.
He added, “Obviously this year has been a dream year so far, and going back home, I hope I get rewarded for what I’ve done this year and that people will come out in support. It’s going to feel awesome to tee it up in the SA Open”.
