Branden Grace scared of playing against the Dane Thomas Bjorn at Volvo Match Play Championship
Rampaging South African Branden Grace is now hoping to land the Volvo Grand Slam in Finca Cortesin this week after winning two consecutive Volvo titles earlier in the year.
He took over the two giants of the sport Ernie Els and Retief Goosen in Volvo Golf Champions in January and went over to card another victory at the Volvo China Open, defeating Nicolas Colsaerts in the final round by a margin of three strokes.
Despite of his phenomenal success on his rookie year so far, Grace is little shaky when facing the formidable European Tour player Thomas Bjorn in the 24-man field this week.
He said, “I know Thomas really well but I've never really played with him but looking forward to that. Snedeker, he's a class player, as well. So it's going to be a good couple of matches going into the week, but if you just keep playing your game and
make a couple of putts, you never know”.
Grace however admits that winning three times in the current year has given him confidence to attempt another Volvo title on the tour, despite of facing the giants on a difficult course.
He added, “I know that if I keep playing as I know I can play then I can win. It's one of those things where I feel really positive. I don't really care who you're going to play against”.
Turning professional in the year 2007, Grace qualified to be part of the mainstream European Tour after qualifying through the Qualifying School this year and has done a tremendous job so far.
He was also awarded the European Tour Player of the Month award in January and is hoping to continue with his trailblazing golf for the rest of the season.
Grace is also eyeing an opportunity to land four titles in a single year.
He is now included in the list of players which includes Seve Ballesteros and Sandy Lyle who have won three times in a single year in the European Tour history.
Ballesteros did it three times between 1977 and 1980, and Sandy Lyle did it in 1979.
Grace is poised at number 65 on the Official World Golf Rankings and will need a strong finish to make it into the top-60 to qualify for the major events ahead.
