Branden Grace takes over Nicolas Colsaerts in second round of Volvo Golf Champions: Live Leaderboard
Overnight leader Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts has now lost his lead through the nine-hole stretch of the second round of the Volvo Golf Champions and is now sharing the lead along with South African Branden Grace.
Colsaerts, who started off his second round later in the afternoon, stumbled on two bogeys on the front nine in the opening four holes.
He is now facing serious threats from Grace, as well as the grizzled Retief Goosen, both of whom are poised to grab the lead till the end of the 36-hole stretch.
Grace, who carded a round of five-under, 68 on the opening day, pulled in two more birdies earlier in the day and is resting on an aggregate of seven-under for the moment, sharing the lead.
Colsaerts, who has won just one title in his 200 starts on the European Tour, and who started off the day with a four shot lead, now needs a miracle to retain his ground.
Goosen carded four birdies on the front nine to surge up the leaderboard and another on the par-three, 11th after making the turn.
He is now hoping to extend his stunning performance through the end of the 36-hole stretch and possibly close the day on top of the leaderboard.
He is currently tied for third along with Joost Luiten and Thomas Aiken.
Winner of the Iskandar Johor Open last year, Luiten strengthened his overnight performance of four-under, 69 with two birdies on the second day and has not made the turn as yet.
Meanwhile, Aiken, who soared to the top with two birdies on the opening holes, has now fallen back, suffering a dreadful bogey at par-four, 4th.
Lee Slattery, Paul Lawrie and Jose Maria Olazabal are now tied for the sixth spot, with an aggregate of five-under for the moment.
Slattery had a blistering start of the day with five birdies on the front nine but fell for the bogey before making the turn. He carded two more birdies on the back nine and dropped another shot at par-three, 11th.
Norwegian Alexander Noren, winner of Saab Wales Open and Nordea Masters on the European Tour last year, started off with three consecutive birdies on the front nine but dropped a shot after making a turn to settle for joint 12th for the moment.
Open champion Darren Clarke has also pulled in an impressive round with four-under for the moment and will be hoping to surge up the leaderboard through the halfway mark.
