My buddy and I might be moving out to Brandon in a couple years and we were just wondering what there is to do out there. Any festivals, concerts, parks, etc ? Where are the best movie theaters located? Places to visit? What's fun to do out there? Any information appreciated!

  1. Hmm, where to begin. Brandon is a pretty good city. I travel there with my job anywhere from 2-7 times a weeks, and it's the place to go shopping because it's got a lot more then my small town. :D I don't know what your likes and dislikes are, or where you're moving from but I'll assume you don't know anything. :D

For festivals and such, there are several in Brandon and several in the surrounding area. In Brandon, for concerts there is X-Fest which is held in August. This year's bands are ones like 3 Doors Down, Puddle of Mudd, and Theory of a Deadman. The Brandon Folk Music and Art Festival is in July. In Minnedosa (30 mins away) there is Rockin the Fields. Up in Dauphin (about 2 hours away) there is Countryfest.

For other things to do, I'll just list a few and provide you with links to others. There's the Manitoba Summer Fair, held in June (actually going on right now! :D), and the Winter Fair in the winter. (imagine that...)

Brandon has a University which has musical performances, art displays and I believe shows a movie once a week. There are several parks and outdoor activities; the Assiniboine River Corridor is one popular one for trails, and the Riverbank Discovery Center.

There is the Sportsplex, which is about to be remodeled, but it has an indoor pool, water slide, swimming club, offers swimming lessons,  has a rink with public skating and lessons, three racquetball courts, four outdoor tennis courts, track and field facility, playground and a paddle pool.

There's the Keystone Centre which is where all the attractions are held. It hosts the Winter and Summer Fairs, it's where the  hockey games are held (local team is the Wheat Kings) and when most bands and groups play.

There is an outdoor ice skating rink in the winter which has the Manitoba Hydro Waterfall of Lights.

For your last question, Brandon has only one major movie theater which is located right next to the Shoppers Malls on 18th street.  It's been renovated and updated lately with more screens, and better seats, among things.

I honestly can't list everything but I hope I've provided you with some interesting info and links. Hope you do move and enjoy Brandon. :D
