Brandon Bass opts out of his contract with the Boston Celtics for a bigger pay day – NBA News
Brandon Bass has decided to opt out of his contract with the Boston Celtics and will become a free agent come July 1st.
Bass was in his final year of contract with the Celtics that would have seen him play the 2012-2013 season, worth $4.25 million. However, he is looking towards more money and a longer contract to secure his future.
“I’m no different than anyone else. I’m going to do what’s best for me and my family. Hopefully that’ll keep me here in Boston. We’ll see,” Bass said while talking to CSNNE.com.
Bass has every intention of returning to the Celtics team next season as he feels that he has had a good season and adjusted well in his role with the team.
The Celtics are expected to make some moves in order to improve their roster and bring them back in contention for the NBA championship and Bass would like to be part of that squad. His agent Tony Dutt recently talked to CSNNE.com
and when asked about whether Bass would consider returning to the Celtics with a new contract, he said:
“Oh absolutely. Without question, he would love to go back.”
Bass was acquired after Glen Davis was sent to the Orlando Magic in the mid season trade and fitted well with the team. This season saw him average a career high 12.5 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. He also averaged 0.9 blocks
and shot 47.9% from the field.
His performance was even better in the NBA playoffs, where the Celtics missed becoming the Eastern Conference Champions by just one game. It was definitely a breakthrough season for the forward, who now looks to cash in on his
effort and hard work.
The Celtics have Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen already becoming free agents this summer and now Brandon Bass has also been added to their list. They have some tough decisions to make in the coming weeks as free agency in just around
the corner.
Glen Davis signed a four year $28 million deal last summer when he was traded to the Orlando Magic. Bass will be looking for a similar contract. The question that remains is will any team be willing to pay him that much for his
services?
Looking back at his season, chances are in his favour.
