Brandon Bass talks NBA Championship; Opens up about a foreign move and his music video – NBA Update
Orlando Magic forward Brandon Bass has revealed that he will be aiming for the very top when he goes onto the NBA court next season.
The power forward has a goal set to win the NBA World Championship with the Magic and believes next season could be their year.
Bass established himself as an important member of the Magic roster with some consistent showings last season. With Rashard Lewis moving on from Magic, the power forward spot was there for the taking and Bass made it his own, averaging a career-high 11.2 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.
His performances endeared him to the fans and gave the Magic a second option in the paint after super star centre Dwight Howard. Orlando looked strong heading into the NBA playoffs last season, but were unexpectedly bundled out by the Atlanta Hawks in the first round of the playoffs.
Brandon admits that loss hurt his side but has also added more fuel to their drive of winning the holy grail of NBA.
“Our goal as a team is to win a championship,” Bass said in an interview with Hoopsworld recently. “Last year, we started building toward that. Now, we have to keep working hard so that we can achieve the goal this year.”
That, however, will have to wait as the NBA lockout lingers one. The labour dispute between the NBA and the players has already cost regular season games and could even end up wiping out the entire season.
In the circumstances, a number of NBA players have been making overtures across the Atlantic. Brandon’s esteemed teammate Dwight Howard has expressed an interest in playing abroad during the lockout while others like Deron Williams, Wilson Chandler, Kenyon Martin and Rudy Fernandez have already signed deals.
Bass though doesn’t fall into that category. The player says he has not many ambitions of going overseas and will rather sit tight and hope the lockout ends soon.
“To be honest, I’m not interested in going overseas to play,” Bass said. “I’m just hoping that the lockout ends sooner rather than later.”
In the meantime, the power forward has been pursuing another area of interest. The player released a music video and has revealed that he has been rapping since he was 17. Asked why he had not shared his talent with the world earlier, Brandon said he just felt the time wasn’t right.
“It was a comfort thing for me,” Bass said. “When you put music out, you’re going to be judged. People see it as a basketball player trying to be a rapper, especially if they’re talking about all of the same things that a rapper talks about.”
He certainly likes to do things his own way.
