Brandon Bass working out with Orlando Magic teammates – NBA Update
This NBA offseason has been very different for the players.
Most of them are used to relaxing and then working by themselves a little, before they report to their respective franchises for team training. With that no longer a possibility due to the NBA lockout, Brandon Bass and his Orlando
Magic teammates, have been giving it a go all by themselves.
Bass started out in the summer by doing some work in Louisiana State University, before returning to Orlando in the hope that the lockout would end in time to save the NBA season.
“Earlier in the summer, I was working out at LSU, back home in Baton Rouge,” Bass told Hoopsworld. “Thinking that the season was going to start, I came back to Orlando.”
Soon enough, Bass was joined by a number of his teammates. The likes of Jameer Nelson, Gilbert Arenas and Quentin Richardson have all taken part in team workouts from time to time, according to Bass. Still, the whole team has only
been together for a fraction of time.
“About eight of us worked out together on my first day back,” Bass said. “Then, they went back to their trainers to continue working out there. We had a team workout once, but since then it’s just been me, Jameer, Gilbert Arenas
and Quentin Richardson.”
Although they have not been able to consistently train together, the fact that they have tried and many have indeed gotten more used to each other during the offseason can only be good for the Orlando Magic.
As an individual, Bass has been particularly focused on training this off-season. He only established himself in the Orlando Magic side last season with some stellar displays. The forward thrived once Rashard Lewis departed for
the Washington Wizards and earned high praise for his displays from fans and players alike.
He appears determined to build in the success of last season and improve his game as much as possible during the offseason,
“I have a few things that I’m working on. I’m trying to improve every aspect of my game. I’m trying to improve any weaknesses that I have and I’m constantly building on my strengths.”
The Magic would certainly want Bass to improve as much as he can in order to provide support to super star centre Dwight Howard. Since Lewis left, Bass has done a great job of cushioning the blow as Orlando fans hardly noticed
any disruption in the team.
However, with Gilbert Arenas coming the other way in the trade and going on to have the worst season of his career, it would take more from Brandon and his teammates to establish Orlando as a major power in the NBA. If that happens,
Dwight Howard may no longer be in Orlando for a very long time.
