Brandon Beachy and Martin Prado shine as Atlanta Braves beat Milwaukee Brewers, 2-1: MLB Update
The Atlanta Braves’ starter Brandon Beachy and infielder Martin Prado both had a notable day as Beachy pitched six solid innings while Prado hit a decisive homer in the Club's 2-1 victory against the Milwaukee Brewers at the Turner Field in Atlanta on May
5.
The Braves swept four games to the Brewers in the current season. Beachy was excited after the win and said, “Sweeping a team is never going to get old, no matter how you do it.”
There was no run in the first inning for both sides. Eric Hinske struck a one-run homer in the second inning to take 1-0 lead for the Braves. On the other side, the Brewers opened their scoring account in the fifth inning when Yuniesky Betancourt hit a one-out
grounder and posted a single run on the fly-ball of Jonathan Lucroy. The game was tied at 1-all with the single taken by Betancourt towards the centre-field position.
Chipper Jones took a double to match his hits with Roberto Alomar, who also batted in the third spot. The Braves were scoreless from third to seventh inning. Then, Prado struck a tie-breaking homer in the eighth inning and led off the Braves with 2-1. The
ninth inning also passed without any score.
There were some miserable moments for the Brewers when Nyjer Morgan suffered an injury on his left hand after making his comeback from the disabled list two days ago.
Beachy was outstanding with the ball, as he permitted just one run on four hits and struck out nine batters in his six inning pitches. The Braves' Manager, Fredi Gonzalez, had a standing ovation for Beachy. Speaking to reporters, Gonzalez said, “He's just
not getting the wins, but for me he's pitched well enough to have at least four wins.”
The relievers threw superbly for the Braves as they did not give even a single run to the rivals. They struck out two hitters each. For the Brewers, Shaun Marcum also pitched well, but it was not enough to squeeze a win for his team. He gave away one run
on five hits including a single earned run and eight strike-outs in seven inning pitches. The Brewers’ closer Kameron Loe allowed a lead-off homer in his eighth inning pitched to give an easy win to the Braves.
