Brandon Beachy can draw inspiration from Kris Medlen in his recovery from Tommy John surgery
Brandon Beachy can look up to Kris Medlen in order to be confident that he can be as effective on the mound as he was prior to undergoing Tommy John surgery.
Medlen went through the same surgery. When he ended his rehabilitation, he threw quality innings for the team.
Doubts prevail in the mind of Beachy as to whether he can maintain his efficacy as starter after the surgery. He is h**l-bent to come back to the mound and begin throwing a great number of innings just as he did during the 2012 season.
However, he has been forced to follow a complete pattern and made to comply with it until he recovers. He can be worried that after staying out from baseball activities for such a long time he may be unable to show command and control on the mound.
In light of the fact that Medlen was extremely impressive during the season, Beachy can be optimistic about his own performances on return from injury.
Most probably, Beachy will enter into the season next year by All-Star break. If this happens, it will be a similar time when Medlen became starter for the Braves in the recently concluded regular season.
While Medlen was an out and out success for the Braves in the second half of the season, it will be interesting to see as to how Beachy will perform in case he gets the opportunity.
Beachy is inspired by the way Medlen lifted the Braves’ rotation in the season with his solid outings on the mound. He is looking forward to do the same for Atlanta next year.
“What I saw Medlen do the final couple months of the season couldn’t have helped me more mentally to show me how quickly and how well he’s come back from it,” Beachy said. “There’s no reason for me to think that I can’t come back and be just as good as I
was before.”
Right now, Beachy will be eyeing on his schedule and make sure he throws as per the plan. He will want to gain his control at the earliest and prepare himself for the upcoming season.
