Brandon Belt impresses San Francisco Giants’ Sabean in offseason – MLB News
Minor League batter Brandon Belt has managed to make a good impression on San Francisco Giants general manager Sabean during the offseason. The team looks to be considering Belt to spot in Triple-A.
There is no doubt that Belt is working hard for a potential spot in the Giants spring workout session. The Giants are definitely beginning to take notice of this young dynamic player. It would not surprise anybody to see Belt given an opportunity to a part
of the team during Spring Training. This will allow Belt to get some much needed playing time against some of the top tier teams in Major League Baseball. Also, the Giants will have the opportunity to observe Belt’s performance and long term potential with
the team.
Sabean said, “I probably expect him to start in Triple-A, and we'll be conservative. But you can't kill his enthusiasm or his will to want to make the team. He'll have to force his way into this mix through his performance."
San Francisco Giants have great respect for Belt and his playing abilities. The team is known to identify players at an early stage which have the potential to become tremendous players within a few years of Minor League workouts.
The 22-year-old Belt had a decent average in 2010 with a hitting average of .352 with 23 home-runs and 112 RBIs in the Minor Leagues. Although these figures are not extraordinary, they are impressive for a player of his age and experience. Most experts feel
that Belt is still not ready to be playing in the Major League level and should perfect his playing skills in Triple-A. Although the Giants cannot rule anything out as their previous experience with Buster Posey turned out to be a gold mine for the team as
he managed to perform admirably to win the Rookie of the Year Award.
Sabean said, "If Belt comes to the big leagues, we want to make sure that he's able to stay and contribute. If he's going to be a role player or we have to over manage him to protect him, then he belongs in Triple-A."
It will be interesting to see if the Giants bring Belt into the line-up for some Spring Training experience or just manage him in Triple-A for now. He is a tremendous player and a definite front line player for the Giants in the future. The team understands
the importance of starting a player when he is ready and not to rush him into the stressful environment of the Major League.
Only time will tell if Belt is given the opportunity, but one thing is certain and that is the talent and skills of Belt are impressive and the team cannot ignore any longer.
