Brandon Fischer dominates Men’s 200m breast-stroke meet - 2011 USA Swimming Sectionals, Mount Hood
Brandon Fischer of Wyoming Aquatics secured the gold medal of the Men’s 200m breast-stroke meet on day two of the 2011 USA Swimming Sectionals in Athens, Georgia, on Wednesday, July 20.
The 22-year-old Fischer was comfortably ahead of his fellow swimmers and pocketed the gold medal of the event, with a remarkable effort of 2 minutes and 17.91 seconds. His time was 10.61 seconds above the world record of 2 minutes and 07.31 seconds, made
by Australian swimmer, Christian Sprenger at the Rome World Championships in 2009.
Fischer’s time was also 10.49 seconds away from the American mark of 2 minutes and 07.42 seconds, set by American swimmer, Eric Shanteau at the same World Championships. Furthermore, he missed Scott Usher’s meet record of 2 minutes and 15.32 seconds, with
a difference of just 2.59 seconds.
The silver medal of the event was obtained by Rory L Buck of Spokane Waves Aquatic, who stayed almost three seconds behind Fischer and posted a time of 2 minutes and 20.71 seconds. Tanner F Krall of DU Hilltoppers-C, who stayed 0.41 seconds behind Buck,
followed him on the victory stand with a timing of 2 minutes and 21.12 seconds.
Eric A May of North Jeffco Swimming was the fourth best finisher of the four-lap event, as he was 1.23 seconds behind May and produced a time of 2 minutes and 21.40 seconds. He was followed by Brandon Young of Tucson Ford Deal, who reported in a time of
2 minutes and 22.63 seconds for the fifth position.
Gabriel Rooker of Tualatin Hills S earned the sixth fastest spot of the swim, as he touched the finishing wall and posted a time of 2 minutes and 23.31 seconds. Rin Isobe and Matthew Swallow were the seventh and eighth fastest finishers of the meet, as they
clocked a time of 2:24.64 and 2:25.29 minutes, respectively.
Furthermore, the arena enjoyed the immaculate swims of podium finishers, while the winners were presented with awards and accolades for their wonderful efforts in the 200m breast-stroke event.
