Brandon Inge's homer helps Detroit Tigers defeat Cleveland Indians 10-1 – MLB Update
Brandon Inge had the second homer of the season on Saturday, August 20 to bring about a fascinating 10-1 win for the Detroit Tigers against the Cleveland Indians at Comerica Park.
Inge took to task David Huff of the Indians to hit his second homer in 220 at-bats of the season.
The win also brought back the Tigers in the four-game series as they lost the second one by 6-4 to the Indians. The win would not possibly have come without some remarkably good pitches of Doug Fister and the homer that Inge executed.
"I was just laughing. I couldn't have drawn it up any better than that. What a year. I went down there with one thing in mind, and that was to make this game fun again," said Inge, who had last played for the Tigers on July 19.
Saturday’s game remained relatively aggressive on the Detroit Tigers’ part when it kicked off. Miguel Cabrera was the first one to score as he singled to centre followed by Victor Martinez sacrifice fly hit against David Huff.
With 2-0 lead in their favour, the Tigers had Doug Fister to hold the Cleveland Indians back from scoring any runs. The fastballs he threw with wonderful variations worked out, keeping the Tigers in the game without much difficulty.
Brandon Inge had his homer in the second to triple the Tigers’ lead followed by Maggilo Ordonez’s single to right, having given the Tigers a 4-0 lead by the end of the second inning. Shin-Soo Choo homered for the Indians to score their first run in the third
inning.
Brandon Inge had another hit in the third which allowed Cabrera to score. With a 5-1 lead favouring the Tigers, Doug Fister was unleashing his unplayable pitches against the Indians. As the fifth inning began, Inge had another hit to allow the Tigers to
make it 6-1 followed by Ramon Santiago’s hit, taking the lead up to 7-1 by the end of the fifth inning.
Frank Herrmann was dispatched to stop the Tigers from scoring runs. However, the reliever failed to deliver. The seventh inning brought Ramon Santiago, Austin Jackson and Don Kelly’s respective singles that took the lead to 10-1 for the Detroit Tigers.
Phil Coke replaced Fister in the eighth and had a scoreless inning while the closer Daniel Schlereth remained beyond any Cleveland Indians’ hitter, wrapping up the game with 10-1 victory for the Detroit Tigers.
The Tigers put in a brilliant effort as they managed to restrict the Indians’ offence from scoring in the crucial innings of the game. The Indians will be looking to improve their performance in their next match-up.
