Brandon Inge changes his glove before 2012 Spring Training – MLB News
According to a top sports website, Detroit Tigers second baseman Brandon Inge has decided to change his fielding glove before the start of 2012 Spring Training. There are some players who are extremely superstitious about their Gloves. On the other hand, some players will pick any Glove the feels good to their hands. Tigers’ outfielder Ryan Raburn is certainly one of them as he is never bothered about the manufacturer on his glove.
Raburn uses an infield Glove that was given to him by Tigers’ player Adam Everett two years ago. Using the same Glove for the entire past season, it seems the 30 year old does not pay too much attention to the equipment he uses. He has also used Curtis Granderson’s glove in the past.
Brandon Inge, on the other hand, is completely opposite. Earlier this year, Inge was asked to switch from third base to second base after Tiger signed a multimillion dollar deal with Prince Fielder. Making the most of available opportunities, the left fielder displayed some high quality fielding and defensive skills last season. To perform his duties second base effectively, Inge has changed his glove to a smaller one.
"It's more important to have a smaller glove at second so you can turn a double play," he said.
"We'll see what he thinks of it, and we will customize it any way he wants," said Michael Markovich, the global business director at Wilson.
"At third base, Brandon uses a special model that isn't real common for our players. He's very particular about his glove. If you ever see the one that is broken in, it has a very distinct shape to it to play third. He works with our master craftsman to get it to a very distinct shape."
The striker will be fielding with a brand new Wilson glove in the upcoming season. At third base, Inge had been using a customised glove. The upcoming season will be of great importance for the 34 year old Inge. He will be looking to deliver the goods on regular basis in an effort to win back third base.
